6-OXO was once used as an element in prohormone cycles before the prohormones were banned. 6-OXO is “a suicide inhibitor of the aromatase enzyme, which converts the ‘male’ hormone testosterone into the ‘female’ hormone estradiol, an estrogen…. It was used on-cycle, or following a cycle, for facilitating the recovery of natural testosterone production.” Whew. That is a lot of information to take in. At any rate, it wasn’t developed as a standalone testosterone booster so why should you use it now? Because it have been proven effective. 6-OXO has established itself as a testosterone booster in two studies, one conducted by a private company (Human Performance Specialists, Inc.) and the other a formal trial conducted at Baylor University.

The Baylor University trial was published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition  and consisted of healthy, “recreationally active” males who took either 300mg or 600mg of 6-OXO over a period of eight weeks. By the end of the trail period these men showed similar, and significant, boosts in their testosterone levels, specifically in free testosterone, DHT and the T/E (testosterone to estrogen) ration for both groups. There were no adverse effects reported. However, as a testosterone booster that will aid in bodybuilding and giving you extreme gains, 6-OXO showed little value. Those conducting the trial stated that “in regard to body composition, in neither dose of 6-OXO demonstrated any significant improvement in fat mass or fat-free mass over the course of the study.” The statement is summarized thusly, “…6-OXO supplemented at these dosages for eight weeks did not… cause an anabolic response by increasing muscle mass.”

This seems like an awful lot of scientific jargon that gives you some hope and then steals it away. The truth is that 6-OXO can help those of you with lower testosterone levels to achieve higher testosterone levels. It does have merit as a testosterone booster. 6-OXO does not, however, cause a large enough shift in testosterone levels to give you any testosterone-related bodily changes. If you are looking for something that will amp up your testosterone so you can amp up your guns, you are going to have to look elsewhere.
