If you’re looking for a straightforward, no-strings-attached carnitine product, MusclePharm Carnitine Core is a good choice. If there’s one thing every athlete wants, it’s to burn excess fat to improve definition and overall body composition. MusclePharm Carnitine Core is a product formulated to help you do just that.

Boasting 4 forms of the amino acid l-carnitine, Carnitine Core relies on just 1 other ingredient to “turn fat into energy.”

Will this be enough to really cut you down to size? I intend to find out by looking into MusclePharm Carnitine Core more thoroughly.

What Ingredients Are in Carnitine Core?

Understandably, most ingredients in Carnitine Core are based on l-carnitine. There are 4 carnitine forms and 1 other ingredient present in this product, making for a simple, focused approach to weight loss.

These ingredients include:

L-Carnitine

The namesake for Carnitine Core, it’s no surprise that the formula focuses almost exclusively on carnitine. In fact, there are 4 kinds of carnitine in Carnitine Core:

• Acetyl-l-carnitine
• L-carnitine base
• L-carnitine l-tartrate
• Propionyl-l-carnitine

An amino acid, l-carnitine has never been tested specifically for weight loss, but studies have revealed significant weight loss properties. In individual studies, l-carnitine reduced fat mass, increased muscle, and raise energy production. Together, you can see why these properties would inspire a product like Carnitine Core.

Raspberry Ketone

Amongst all these carnitine forms is raspberry ketone. A chemical from red raspberries, raspberry ketone is said to trigger greater action in the central nervous system to boost metabolism and increase fat burning.

In a 2004 study, overweight mice fed raspberry ketone showed a significantly lower fat mass than mice in a control group [2]. These effects prompted Dr. Oz to label raspberry ketone a “miracle fat burner” on his show in February 2012. Unfortunately, these benefits have not yet been replicated in humans.

It’s nice to see so many different forms of carnitine, but I wish there were other ingredients besides raspberry ketone to round them out.

This formula is great if you’re sure carnitine will work for you, but since it’s only 1 of 2 ingredients, you’re basically out of luck if it doesn’t.
I’d also like to see a fat burner with a more solid foundation of effectiveness than raspberry ketone included in Carnitine Core.

Will This Product Cause Side Effects?

With just 2 ingredients, side effects with Carnitine Core are fairly limited. This is rare for a fat burner and is something to be celebrated.

In fact, carnitine is considered “likely safe” by WebMD. In some users, however, it may cause nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, heartburn, diarrhea, and seizures. An odd side effect experienced by a small number of users is a “fishy” odor to the urine, breath, and sweat.

Raspberry ketone has not been used extensively enough to determine side effects, but because it is a stimulant, it may cause nervousness, anxiety, headache, nausea, and increased heartbeat.

If you’re concerned about side effects or how the ingredients in Carnitine Core may interact with any prescription meds you’re taking, talk to your doctor.
